Logistics fire prevention and measures - Huaqiang Electronic Network

In the past few years, logistics fires across the country have become a growing concern. On March 8, 2011, at 2:42 am, a fire broke out in a warehouse at Shandong Baihe Logistics Center, where items like plates, decoration materials, and shoes were stored. The Jinan Fire Department quickly responded with 41 fire trucks and over 100 personnel to control a fire that spread over 7,000 square meters. Another incident occurred on May 3, 2011, when a fire broke out at a logistics center near Lanzhou, Gansu Province, destroying about 5,000 refrigerators and freezers. In Guangzhou's Taiheyi Logistics Park on July 22, 2011, a fire engulfed over 6,000 square meters of storage space, resulting in significant losses. On February 23, 2012, a large-scale fire occurred at a logistics warehouse in Chengdu, involving household appliances and food products. These incidents highlight the increasing risks associated with the rapid development of the logistics industry. The logistics sector has grown significantly, with warehouses becoming larger and more complex. This expansion increases both the fire risk and the potential for major casualties and property damage. As a critical part of supply chains, these facilities store valuable goods and are often located in areas with high economic value and dense personnel activity. However, many of these warehouses lack adequate fire safety measures, making them vulnerable to large-scale disasters. Logistics can be broadly categorized into two types: storage-based and transit-based. Storage facilities typically involve large warehouses with high fire loads and limited personnel movement, while transit centers are more dynamic, with frequent movement of goods and people. Both types present unique fire hazards, but they share common challenges such as poor building design, inadequate fire protection systems, and insufficient employee awareness. In Changshu, Suzhou, the logistics industry is mainly concentrated in areas like the Clothing City and Yanjiang Development Zone. Warehouses in these regions often store items such as food, household appliances, and electronics. However, many of these facilities were originally designed for different purposes, leading to violations of fire safety regulations. Additionally, the large scale and high ceilings of these warehouses make it difficult to manage smoke and heat during fires, complicating rescue operations. Fire safety issues in transit logistics include unregulated stacking, blocked fire truck access, and weak fire protection infrastructure. Many logistics sites are located in suburban areas with limited fire resources. Poorly managed spaces and improper wiring further increase the risk of fire. Employees often lack proper training, leading to unsafe practices like smoking in restricted areas or using makeshift heating devices. To address these challenges, comprehensive fire prevention strategies must be implemented. Planning and construction should prioritize fire-resistant designs, including proper layout, fireproofing, and safe storage zones. Responsibility must be clearly assigned, with regular inspections and staff training to ensure compliance. Daily supervision should involve proactive checks and collaboration between authorities to enforce fire codes. Finally, effective firefighting tactics are essential, including early planning, thorough reconnaissance, and coordinated rescue efforts to minimize damage and protect lives.
