The world's first fully-conformed Wi-Fi discrete chip solution

CSR has recently released the CSR6000 product line, the world's first Wi-Fi discrete chip solution that fully complies with the automotive standards, and is used to expand the product range for automotive connectivity platforms. Under the premise of low risk and economy, the CSR6000 product series can help customers to adopt Wi-Fi technology on existing vehicle-mounted designs. The CSR6000 not only implements pre-integration and validation on CSR's automotive-grade SiRFprima reference platform, but it can also be easily integrated into the customer's preferred main application processor platform. Designed specifically for the automotive market, the CSR6000 offers ideal RF performance over the automotive temperature range and provides a QFN package that facilitates COB design. In addition, CSR also provides a Wi-Fi software suite that supports all major on-board operating systems.

Wi-Fi is increasingly used in smart phones and other consumer products. Therefore, automotive OEMs need to support and interact with these devices in the car. The CSR6000 offers automotive customers the best way to incorporate Wi-Fi into their existing product designs. Based on the design of CSR's market-leading BlueCore automotive-grade chips and CSR Synergy software, customers can use Wi-Fi technology to complete this validated and compliance-tested solution. The CSR Synergy software portfolio includes the widely-used Bluetooth stack and Wi-Fi host software for the CSR6000 chip family. In this way, customers can provide a simple and independent software component, and the product supports both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, making these technologies easier to integrate, collaborate and coexist.

The CSR6000 main software for Wi-Fi can support a range of car and PND operating system platforms: Linux, Genivi Linux, QNX, Windows Automotive, and Android.

In the CSR6000 program launched for production in 2012, CSR has established cooperation with many leading Class I and Class II customers in the automotive industry. These projects cover a wide range of application cases.

Thomas Carmody, Head of Connectivity Products for CSR's In-Vehicle Platform CSR's In-Vehicle and PND Business Unit, said: "According to iSuppli's analysis data, by 2012, the Bluetooth placement rate will exceed 40%, and the Wi-Fi placement rate is expected to reach 14%. In order to further assist in the rapid application and deployment of infotainment systems using CSR products, CSR recently joined the Genivi Alliance, a non-profit automotive industry consortium that promotes the popularity of the in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) reference platform. After CSR realized that the in-vehicle infotainment system is reusing the new trend of software as much as possible, it has been trying hard to reduce the development cost, accelerate the time to market and innovate in the automotive electronics field. CSR hopes to make a positive contribution to the Genivi Alliance in the future to ensure that its connectivity products (including the CSR6000 chip family), positioning and SoC technologies can take full advantage of the Genivi IVI reference solution.
