Artificial Intelligence Television Industry Alliance officially established

The Smart TV Industry Summit Forum took place in Beijing, where the China Electronic Chamber of Commerce and JD.com's Home Appliances division jointly launched the "2017 Artificial Intelligence TV White Paper." This document provides a thorough overview of the current state and future trends of the domestic AI TV industry. Additionally, the "Artificial Intelligence Television Industry Alliance," co-founded by the China Electronic Chamber of Commerce and JD.com's Home Appliances, was officially established with the support of major brands including Changhong, TCL, Hisense, Storm, Xiaomi, LeTV, Microwhale, and others. This alliance aims to bring together forces from various industries and academia to collaborate on technological innovation, application breakthroughs, and marketing efforts to integrate AI technology into the TV industry. ![AI TV White Paper Launch](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/14/15/33/yerergeletnle4pr.jpg) ### Defining Artificial Intelligence TV As an emerging industry highlighted in national government work reports, artificial intelligence has seen rapid progress in recent years. AI-powered TVs, representing this technology in consumer electronics, have reached a significant milestone. Several manufacturers have introduced AI-focused TV models, such as Changhong's CHiQ TV Q5N, Xiaomi TV 4, TCI's "Thunderbird," Microwhale's Smart Voice TV 2.0, Storm X5 ECHO, Coolpad U3B series, and popular models like the Q series. However, due to the nascent stage of the AI TV industry, there remains ambiguity around its definition. Not all TVs labeled with AI capabilities truly qualify as AI TVs, as many lack the unique "cognitive-judgment-decision-making" abilities that define true AI. The White Paper defines an AI TV as a device capable of receiving user instructions via sensors, understanding user goals using basic applications and data platforms, making appropriate responses, and leveraging advanced algorithms and big data analytics to learn user preferences and habits for more precise interactions and personalized content recommendations. ### Consumer Awareness and Industry Progress According to a survey by the Consumer Electronics Research Office of the China Electronics Chamber of Commerce, consumers rank artificial intelligence as the third most important feature among emerging TV technologies, following OLED and quantum dots. This highlights the growing public interest in AI applications. Zhang Subing, Director of the Digital TV Standards Conformity Testing Center at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, noted that AI TV products have made significant strides in functionality. Samples from major brands like Changhong, Storm, Thunderbird, LeTV, Microwhale, Xiaomi, and Hisense were evaluated across multiple dimensions: starting time, voice recognition accuracy, response times, smart search accuracy, and recommendation rates. Results showed that mainstream AI TVs now boast a 97% voice recognition accuracy and a 93% recommendation accuracy, ensuring smooth user interactions. However, challenges remain, particularly in enhancing search capabilities and refining recommendation scopes. Lu Jiebo, a renowned expert in household appliances and Deputy Secretary-General of the China Electronic Chamber of Commerce, emphasized that AI technology, which allows for intuitive human interaction and autonomous decision-making based on big data, is reshaping our daily lives. Traditional attributes like high-quality displays and superior sound systems are no longer sufficient for TVs to maintain their role as central home entertainment hubs. AI has revitalized TVs by enabling seamless control, multifunctional applications, and connectivity with other smart devices. ### Driving Adoption Through Innovation JD.com’s Big Data reveals that AI TVs are rapidly gaining traction in China. Over the last year, searches containing the term "artificial intelligence" have surged, reflecting consumers' increasing preference for technologically advanced and stylish products. Today, buyers are not only concerned with picture and sound quality but also prioritize AI functionalities. Recognizing this trend, JD.com collaborated with Linglong Technology, a joint venture focused on smart home core terminal devices, to spearhead advancements in AI TV technology. Since July 2016, AI TVs have grown from 13.3% of JD.com's Flat-panel TV SKUs to 26.5% by July this year, doubling within a year. Jang Dongsheng, General Manager of JD.com's Black Power Marketing Department, stated that as China's leading consumer electronics retailer, JD.com has both the duty and opportunity to drive the healthy growth of the color TV industry while promoting the adoption of AI TVs. Current advancements in display and audio technology have largely met consumer expectations, leaving room for AI-driven innovations to reignite consumer interest and drive growth. To further support industry growth, JD.com is hosting the inaugural "728 Artificial Intelligence TV Festival" in collaboration with major domestic and international TV manufacturers.
