LG Display (LGD), the world's second-largest LCD panel maker, plans to invest 250 billion won (about 18 billion yen) to increase the production capacity of organic EL (OLED) panels using 4.5-generation glass substrates by 50%.
According to the report, LGD is currently constructing a 4.5-generation OLED panel production line in the Perak factory in the suburbs of Seoul. It is expected to be mass-produced in the current (2010) year with a monthly capacity of 8,000 pieces (calculated by the amount of glass substrate input; the same below). However, LGD plans to invest an additional 250 billion won to increase its monthly production capacity by 50% to 12,000 pieces, and to convert 1.5 million pieces per month with a 3-inch panel. According to reports, the above additional equipment will be launched in April-June 2011.
