Analysis of the effect of double latch and PWM LED driver IC

With the growing popularity of smartphones and the enhanced capabilities of their cameras, an increasing number of customers have noticed that displays equipped with dual-latch ICs tend to perform poorly when photographed. JiChuang North’s high-performance PWM IC series, specifically the ICN205X, addresses this issue effectively, ensuring that the display maintains flawless visuals even under the camera lens. But how does the ICN205X improve the camera performance compared to dual-latch ICs? To answer this, let’s explore the results from a series of tests. For these tests, we used the widely adopted P4.81 indoor/outdoor rental panels, a common platform in the industry. These were then compared against mainstream dual-latch ICs and the ICN205X. To ensure unbiased results, we meticulously adjusted both brightness and color temperature to match perfectly before comparing photographs taken at varying shutter speeds. Additionally, all images included here are presented as they were originally captured, without any post-processing. Below are the observations from our tests: **Portrait Comparison** ![Figure 1: 1/200 Shutter Speed](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/82/57/09/-1FH5103225L7.jpg) - At 1/200 shutter speed, the dual-latch IC shows visible artifacts on the left, while the ICN205X offers a much cleaner image on the right. ![Figure 2: 1/500 Shutter Speed](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/82/57/09/-1FH510323R14.jpg) - As the shutter speed increases to 1/500, the dual-latch IC struggles further, producing noticeable distortions, whereas the ICN205X continues to deliver sharp and clear portraits. **Dark Theme Screen Contrast** ![Figure 5: 1/200 Shutter Speed](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/82/57/09/-1FH51033301V.jpg) - Even at slower shutter speeds like 1/200, the dual-latch IC begins to show significant flickering, particularly in darker areas, while the ICN205X remains stable. ![Figure 8: 1/2000 Shutter Speed](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/82/57/09/-1FH5103412B7.png) - At faster shutter speeds such as 1/2000, the ICN205X still produces high-quality images without losing detail or introducing distortions. **Gray Scale Performance** In addition to photographic improvements, the ICN205X outperforms dual-latch ICs in grayscale reproduction, especially when brightness is reduced. ![Figure 9: Brightness Reduced to 50%](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/82/57/09/-1FH510342G17.jpg) - At 50% brightness, the dual-latch IC struggles to maintain consistent gradations, while the ICN205X delivers smooth transitions and accurate representation. **Additional Advantages of PWM ICs** Beyond these benefits, the PWM IC also boasts several other advantages: 1. **Increased Load Capacity**: More LEDs can be connected without sacrificing performance. 2. **Lower Data Clock Frequency**: This leads to improved electromagnetic interference (EMI) performance. 3. **Elimination of Cross-Talk**: Enhancing clarity across the entire display. 4. **Flexible Current Adjustment**: Offers a broader range of customization options. The LED display industry has evolved over the past two decades, moving from general constant current drivers to the advanced PWM constant current stage. While dual-latch products emerged to address cost concerns and offer improved refresh rates, they failed to deliver the desired photographic quality. Now, with the introduction of the ICN205X, we are entering a new era where PWM technology reigns supreme. It is expected that dual-latch solutions will soon be confined to the lowest tier of the market, while PWM becomes the standard for premium displays. Join us as we embrace the future of LED technology!
