On August 12, South Korea’s “Korean Daily†quoted sources as reporting that technology giant Samsung Electronics had won orders for the next generation of NVIDIA’s GPUs.
According to reports, Samsung will use its 14-nanometer manufacturing process to produce Nvidia's next-generation graphics processor products at the end of this year. The new products will be based on Nvidia's Pascal architecture. However, the report did not disclose how much the order involved.
A Samsung Electronics spokeswoman declined to comment on this, and the head of Nvidia has not commented yet.
Earlier on July 18, according to Taiwan’s NTDTV’s Asia Pacific TV station, TSMC defeated rival Samsung and used Apple’s next-generation A11 processor. Starting with the A8 processor, Apple decided to hand over some of its processor production orders to TSMC. After a long period of time, the iPhone had been adopting a dual-source strategy for a long time. Until September 2015, TSMC repulsed Samsung and obtained the exclusive A10 processor order for Apple's 16-nanometer process. This time together with A11, Samsung lost the game again. It can be described as worse.
If the NVIDIA order is true, then it is a good comfort to Samsung who has lost Apple's order.
