The Qualcomm Developer Network begins to provide the Nine Dragons neural processing engine

On July 25th, in San Diego, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), announced its continued commitment to providing the Qualcomm® Neural Processing Engine (NPE) SDK on the Qualcomm Developer Network. This software development kit is specifically designed to support the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ mobile platform, introducing the first deep learning software framework tailored for this purpose. The chart highlighted how the integration of neural processing engines could significantly enhance user experiences across various industries. The Snapdragon NPE is aimed at empowering developers to optimize their applications by leveraging the powerful processing capabilities of the Snapdragon platform. It allows developers to harness the potential of different cores, including the Qualcomm® Kryo™ CPU, Qualcomm® Adreno™ GPU, and Qualcomm® Hexagon™ DSP, to deliver high-performance deep neural network computations directly on mobile devices. This toolset is particularly beneficial for sectors like mobile, automotive, healthcare, security, and imaging, offering solutions for advanced user experiences powered by neural networks. Features such as style transitions, facial recognition, natural language processing, object tracking, and text recognition are now more accessible than ever before. One notable example of this technology in action comes from Facebook, which has expressed intentions to incorporate the Snapdragon NPE into its app’s camera functionalities. By doing so, they aim to leverage the Adreno GPU's computational prowess to enhance augmented reality (AR) features supported by Caffe2. As demonstrated, compared to standard CPU implementations, Facebook can achieve up to a fivefold increase in performance, resulting in smoother and more engaging AR experiences during both photo captures and live broadcasts. The Snapdragon NPE is fully compatible with Snapdragon 600 and 800 series platforms and supports major deep learning frameworks such as Caffe, Caffe2, and TensorFlow. The SDK encompasses runtime software, libraries, APIs, offline model conversion utilities, sample codes, documentation, along with debugging and performance benchmarking tools.
