This innovation enabled users to play PC VR games directly on the device, marking a significant step forward in immersive technology.
The live VR game application showcased was based on the popular PC VR title "Steel Soul - IRON SOUL," developed by Wuhan Fire Tour Network. This collaboration highlights the growing synergy between content creators and telecom providers in delivering high-quality VR experiences.
Li Ke, an expert from the China Mobile Research Institute, explained that the institute, in partnership with Da Peng VR, has introduced a customized optimization machine tailored for edge computing. This solution enhances VR rendering through the edge network, significantly lowering hardware costs while improving user experience. The initiative is expected to accelerate the widespread adoption of VR technology.
The system leverages GPU virtualization technology, allowing multiple users to enjoy VR entertainment simultaneously on a single server. According to Da Peng, the implementation of MEC (Multi-access Edge Computing) architecture has moved VR rendering closer to the communication edge, resulting in improved image quality and reduced network latency.
Additionally, Da Peng emphasized the use of asynchronous time warping (ATW) and front buffer rendering on the client side. These techniques help minimize motion-to-photon latency, ensuring smoother visuals and reducing the risk of motion sickness caused by delayed feedback. This advancement not only enhances the overall user experience but also paves the way for more realistic and engaging VR environments.
