STMicroelectronics, a leading global supplier of semiconductors, has announced that its LSM6DSM 6-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) has been certified for use with Google's Daydream and Tango platforms. This certification marks a significant milestone, as the IMU is now approved for integration into next-generation devices designed for virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) experiences.
Google Daydream is a high-performance VR platform aimed at delivering immersive experiences through smartphones and dedicated headsets. It allows users to explore virtual worlds, enjoy private movie theaters, and play interactive games. Meanwhile, the Tango platform enables 3D spatial mapping, allowing virtual objects to be placed and interacted with in real-world environments.
The LSM6DSM is specifically designed for applications like Daydream and Tango, offering energy-efficient "always-on" motion sensing. By integrating three-axis gyroscopes and three-axis accelerometers, it delivers high-precision tracking while maximizing battery life.
