The end of the 17-year mission: the first submarine cable in China and the United States officially retired

When the staff pressed the back button, the CUCN, the first submarine cable system that served in China and the United States for 17 years, completed its historical mission. It officially “retired” yesterday (16th), this is Xinmin Evening News Xinmin.com today (17 Day) I learned about the situation from Shanghai Telecom. It is understood that the new optical cable Asia-Pacific submarine cable system (APG), which succeeds CUCN, was officially opened on the 16th. The maximum transmission capacity of the cable system is 54T, which is the most advanced optical cable system. This also marks the Asia-Pacific that Shanghai has become. One of the information centers.

According to Shanghai Telecom, the newly-built Asia-Pacific direct submarine cable system (APG) is a Southeast Asian submarine cable jointly invested by China Telecom and 13 partners. This is the second building of China Telecom in Shanghai after the Asia-Pacific No. 2 submarine cable. Two main submarine cables connecting Southeast Asia. The APG system is about 10,900 kilometers long and has 11 landing stations. The system has provided high-speed channels including multiple routes from Shanghai to North America, Shanghai to the Middle East, North Africa, Southern Europe and Southeast Asia, further strengthening Shanghai's position as a communications hub in the Asia Pacific region.

The reporter learned that the retired China-US first submarine cable system (CUCN) has invested a total of 1.1 billion US dollars from 40 operators from 9 countries and regions such as China Telecom, Japan KDD and NTT, US AT&T and MCI. It was put into use in 1999. The total length is about 30,000 kilometers. It is also the largest and most technologically advanced sea cable between China and the United States. However, with the improvement of technology and the demand for Internet transmission in the past 17 years, the system has not been suitable for the heavy responsibility of the main communication channel between China and the United States. The cable system (CUCN) was retired at the end of 2016, as agreed by the China-US Cable Management Committee.

In the past three years, the data shows that China's two-way flow to Europe, America, and Asia-Pacific has increased significantly. The inflows and outflows from Europe have increased by 200% and 100% respectively. The flow rate of exports (exports) in Asia-Pacific has increased by 3.6 times. In terms of business positioning, the positioning of the old and new optical cable systems has changed from the single foreign communication communication demand in the past to the foreign trade Internet business demand.

Absolute Encoder

Absolute rotary Encoder measure actual position by generating unique digital codes or bits (instead of pulses) that represent the encoder`s actual position. Single turn absolute encoders output codes that are repeated every full revolution and do not output data to indicate how many revolutions have been made. Multi-turn absolute encoders output a unique code for each shaft position through every rotation, up to 4096 revolutions. Unlike incremental encoders, absolute encoders will retain correct position even if power fails without homing at startup.
