High-power linear dimming scheme

Fairchild, the world's leading provider of high-performance power semiconductor solutions, unveiled the new FL77944 at PCIM 2016. This is Fairchild's first AC direct-drive series of LED solid-state lighting solutions that manufacturers can easily scale with this solution. To create smart and scalable LED lighting products. These products offer smaller size, higher performance, and longer system life than products that use a switching power supply (SMPS) solution. Comprehensive dimming performance – The FL77944 has all the important dimming features required for smart lighting products, including phase-cut dimming, analog dimming and PWM dimming, which are also critical for wirelessly connected lighting.

Scalable to support higher power applications – The FL77944 is capable of supporting higher power applications (up to 120W) with parallel product expansion, a key feature. This helps reduce the amount of inventory required by the manufacturer for different ICs.

No electrolytic capacitors required – the FL77944 eliminates the need for electrolytic capacitors, transformers and inductors. This reduces both bill of materials (BOM) cost and overall complexity compared to designs that use SMPS.

Smaller board space – The FL77944 allows designers to place controller ICs and LEDs on the same PCB without the need for electrolytic capacitors, transformers, and inductors, reducing board space requirements.

Higher reliability and longer life – FL77944-based products are more reliable and last longer than SMPS-based products because they have fewer points of failure. In particular, the need to use electrolytic capacitors can improve reliability, because electrolytic capacitors are a common source of failure based on SMPS products.
